About

What if rope became a way to meet yourself and to discover what kind of play your body wants today?

This solo rope class invites you to explore shibari as a playful, embodied way of meeting yourself. Rather than aiming for performance or complex shapes, we work with rope as a tool for curiosity, sensation, and self-guided play, where you get to discover what your body enjoys, needs, or wants to explore in the moment.

After a gentle warm-up, you’ll be introduced to foundational self-tying techniques and simple structures that support both grounding and freedom. From there, the focus shifts to experimentation: playing with tension and release, following impulse and intuition, and allowing rope to become a partner in exploration rather than a set of rules.

This class is an open, supportive entry point into solo rope practice. It’s for anyone curious about using rope to explore sensation, presence, and creativity at your own pace, in your own way, and with room for both depth and lightness.

This workshop is in dutch.

Discover

Through guided exercises and open exploration, you’ll discover how rope can become a playful extension of your own curiosity. We move between structure and freedom, giving you tools to explore while leaving space for experimentation, sensation, and personal expression.

This is an invitation to explore at your own pace to notice how your body responds, to play with tension and intention, and to let rope support both grounding and creativity.

You will explore:

  • The sensory and grounding qualities of rope on your own body
  • Foundational self-tying and shibari techniques for solo practice
  • Playing with tension, pressure, and release
  • Following intuition and impulse in self-guided play
  • Guiding your own body with clarity, care, and curiosity
  • Opening to a wide range of sensations, emotions, and playful states
  • Using rope as a tool for exploration, presence, and embodied awareness

For who?

This class is open to all genders, bodies, and identities. You’re welcome whether you’re completely new to shibari or already curious about solo rope as a personal practice.

It’s for anyone who wishes to explore rope without stepping into a power dynamic, without handing over control of movement, rhythm, or pace to someone else. It especially welcomes those who want to connect with their own body and senses through the touch of rope, in a space that values autonomy, curiosity, and self-led play.

No partner is needed, just an openness to explore what rope can offer you.

The Teacher: Vagevuur

Vagevuur is an Antwerp based rope switch. She discovered shibari in 2021, in search of a way to escape the chronic pain and tension in her body. Starting out as a rope bottom, she quickly picked up the ropes herself by exploring self-tying. Slowly she opened up to tying others.

Vagevuur prefers intuitive ropes over fixed patterns, while also acknowledging the importance of a clean technique and safety awareness. Mostly self-taught through labbing with Shibari Study tutorials and learning from being in ropes herself, she keeps discovering new layers in the art of tying by incorporating elements from different teachers in different styles. Rope jams are her favorite place to practice, to play and to learn from observing others.

Dresscode

Dress in a way that supports comfort and embodied learning. whether you’re tying or being tied. Soft, flexible layers work best: silk, jersey, modal, bamboo, mesh, or lightweight cotton. Avoid stiff or restrictive fabrics.

  • Wear something that allows smooth rope contact on skin: soft tops or no top, form-fitted pieces, relaxed layers you can slip off, or lingerie.
  • Underwire bras, thick seams, or structured garments are not ideal for rope and may be uncomfortable.
  • Soft shorts, loose trousers, or underwear you feel at ease in if layers shift.

This is an intimate but learning-focused space. Dress in what allows you to stay comfortable, grounded, and connected, the sensuality will come through naturally as you practice. A changing area and all material is provided.
