The First Tie is an evening for the rope-curious to arrive unpartnered, meet, and see what can happen when a rope is passed between strangers. 

Come alone, come open, come ready to notice who the room places in front of you. You might leave with a new practice partner, a new friend, or the beginning of something you didn’t arrive expecting. 

In the spring of 2024, at the European Rigger & Model Exchange in Berlin, Ena and Roxu tied together for the first time. It was a rope speed-dating event: strangers paired briefly, then rotated on. Except they didn’t quite rotate. Something passed between them in that first tie that neither of them had words for yet. A few minutes of rope became a conversation, became a collaboration, became a life shared in and out of ropes.

This evening is, in some sense, a return to that moment.

The Performance

Ena and Roxu open the night by taking the floor together for a live demo that reaches back toward that very first contact: the not-yet-knowing, the quiet listening, the slow discovery of another person’s weight and breath and edges through rope. A recreation of a first tie, performed now with all the knowledge of what it became.

It will be intimate to watch.

A Mixer

After the performance, the evening opens into a mixer.

Through a series of short, guided exchanges, you will be paired with other guests to explore what it actually feels like to give and receive rope with someone you have only just met. Each round is brief. Each pairing is different. The pace is unhurried, the pressure low.

What you are paying attention to is the space between two people when one picks up a rope and the other follows. You may be surprised by what you notice. You may be surprised by who you notice it with.

Ena and Roxu hold the room throughout, guiding each exchange with care and reading the energy of the space. Nothing is required of you except curiosity and a willingness to be present.

Timing

19:30 – Doors open, welcome drinks, arrival
20:00 – Doors close
20:15 – Welcoming introduction and setting of intentions
20:30 – Performance by Ena & Roxu
21:30 – Guided rope exchanges
22:30 – Open salon: conversation, connection, drinks and bites
00:30 – End of night

Snacks and drinks are served throughout the evening.

Level

Beginner friendly. No previous rope experience needed; Ena and Roxu will demonstrate a few simple opening ties to get you started. If you have tied before, you are equally welcome. The format rewards attentiveness over skill.

Who Is This For

Singles and individuals of all genders, sexualities, and bodies who want to explore rope without arriving with a partner, or who want to practice with people beyond their usual circle.

This sign-up is for men only.

Partnered guests are welcome too, as long as you are arriving to mix and open to tying with, and being tied by, other guests through the course of the evening. This is not a couples event, and the format is designed for connection across the room rather than within a single pair.

A quick word on why sign-ups are split.

A rope mixer works best when the room is in balance. Running two parallel sign-ups; one for men, one for women and FLINTA , is the simplest way to keep things in rough parity, so that everyone in the room gets the range of pairings the format promises.

This is not a filter. It is not a screening. Men are wanted at The First Tie, your presence shapes the evening as much as anyone else’s, and the night doesn’t work without you. We are only keeping an eye on numbers so that the room stays generous for everyone in it, yourself included.

Rope

Please bring your own rope if you have it. If you don’t, rope is available to borrow or purchase on site.

Participation is always voluntary. You may sit out any round, at any time, for any reason. Application-based To ensure a thoughtful balance of tops and bottoms and a considered gender mix across the room, we ask guests to submit a short application before registering.

Privacy

You are welcome to photograph yourself during the evening. Please ensure no other guest appears in your frame without their explicit permission.

No guests will be photographed by SPNKD without prior consent

Dresscode

Wear what makes you feel good, sensual and at ease in your body. Soft, comfortable layers work well for rope; silk, satin, linen, or anything that moves with you. Partial nudity is welcome but not expected. Underwear stays on.

The Hosts

Ena Dahl Ena is a sensualist and conscious kink educator whose work weaves together somatics, creative direction, and the sensual arts. In ropes, she is known for an intimate and intuitive style that prioritizes connection, deep listening, and communication over technique alone, creating space for people to arrive slowly, feel held, and discover something true about themselves and each other. She is the Creative Lead and General Manager of SPNKD Berlin.

Roxu Roxu is a shibari rigger and educator who has been tying since 2016, known for a precise, seductive style and a rare ability to hold space that feels both structurally safe and emotionally open. With a background in architecture and project management, he brings an unusual combination of technical intelligence and deep empathy to his work building environments where students feel genuinely free to explore. He co-founded rope studio Espacio Takibi in 2023 before relocating to Berlin in 2025.

FAQ

Do I need experience to attend?

No. The exchanges are designed for people with no previous rope experience. If you have tied before, the format still holds something for you, attentiveness is the practice.

Is this a play party?

No. The First Tie is a guided rope salon. Rope and touch happen within the structured exchanges only.

Can I come with a partner?

Yes, if you’re arriving open to mixing with the room. The mixer pairs guests with other guests, and the evening is built around connection across the group rather than within a single couple. If you and your partner want to stay exclusively with each other, this isn’t the right event.

Do I need to bring rope?

Bring your own rope if you have it. If you don’t, rope is available to borrow or purchase on site.

Can I change when I arrive?

Yes. We have a wardrobe and two bathrooms that function as changing areas and will be available for all guests throughout the evening.

Is there parking nearby?

Yes. There is paid street parking directly outside and on the smaller crossing streets nearby. Finding a spot may take some time, so please allow extra time if you are coming by car.

How do I get there by public transport?

Studio Stellar is easily accessible via U8 to Schönleinstraße (5-minute walk), U7 to Südstern (10-minute walk), or the M41 bus to Graefestraße.
